Manuel Bougot is a French photographer based in Paris.
When he was a teenager, his family moved into « les Orgues de Flandre », the brand new housing towers conceived by the architect Martin Van Treeck. This experience triggered his passion for architecture and town planning.
Meanwhile, he started practicing photography in his high school photo-club before joining, at the age of seventeen during a school exchange, Horace Greeley High School photography class in Chappaqua, NY. In 1977, during a long stay in New York, he decided to become a photographer and, back to France, he studied at ENS Louis Lumière professional school of photography.
After practicing photography in the fields of fashion, theatre, cinema and actors’ portraits, he set up his own photo studio and worked for advertising agencies and magazines. Simultaneously, he pursued personal projects such as his « Off-season » and « Domestic portraits » series.
In 2009, Manuel Bougot returned to architecture and town planning, achieving an important project on Le Corbusier’s buildings in India. « Chandigarh », the first part of this work, was exhibited in New York (2022), Tokyo (2021), New Delhi, Arles, Bruxelles, and Cardiff. His photographs are part of private and public collections, recently a photograph of the ‘’Chandigarh’’ series entered the collection of the Art Institute of Chicago.
Manuel Bougot supports « Eileen Gray – Etoile de Mer – Le Corbusier » association for the conservation and valorisation of « Cap Moderne » architectural site.
